When Sean "Diddy" Combs released his 1997 hit song “I’ll Be Missing You,” it was an instant success. The song caught the attention of many fans and topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 11 weeks. However, what many people didn't know is that Diddy sampled Sting's 1983 hit single “Every Breath You Take” without his permission.
In a recent tweet, Diddy revealed that he pays Sting a staggering $5,000 a day while sampling his track. What is more interesting? Well, he will be paying him for the rest of his life! Despite having used Sting’s song without his permission, according to both singers they are now “very good friends.”
The tweet that Diddy posted revealed how much respect he has for Sting, adding that the singer "showed me so much love from day one" and thanking him for his collaboration. He also confirmed that this was a lifetime arrangement: “For the rest of his life” is what Diddy wrote in the caption of his tweet.
Thus, it is great to see two iconic artists coming together and working with each other despite their past issues. It just goes to show that there is always a way to put aside differences and work together on something amazing!
By paying Sting $5,000 a day, it seems like Diddy really wants to express his gratitude towards him and recognizes the impact Sting had on the success of “I’ll Be Missing You.”
