The daughter of Haitian immigrants living in the United States, Karine Jean-Pierre started her political career by working as the director of legislative and budget affairs for the American politician James Gennaro. Shortly after, she joined the presidential campaign of John Edwards, who ran for the White House in 2004. In 2021, she was chosen by Joe Biden to become the White House Deputy Press Secretary.
